Van 2 t/m 10 juni vindt in Enschede de WAK plaats: de Week van de Amateurkunst. De WAK biedt een podium voor mensen die in hun vrije tijd met kunst bezig zijn. Amateurkunst wordt in de spotlight gezet! Onder het thema "Ontmoet je passie" laten stadgenoten zien hoe gepassioneerd zij bezig zijn met muziek, dans, theater, beeldende kunst, zang en andere kunstvormen. In één week tijd zijn er meer dan 60 verschillende groepen actief in ruim 100 verschillende activiteiten.
Kunst en cultuur vindt plaats in alle straten en wijken van Enschede. Het is je eigen muziekgroep, het koor van je moeder en de toneelvereniging van je buurman. Door het maken van een programmaoverzicht van alle deelnemers, wordt getoond hoeveel er in één week allemaal te doen is in de gemeente op het gebied van amateurkunst. De organisatie hoopt dat door de WAK bezoekers geïnspireerd raken om ook zelf met kunst en cultuur aan de slag te gaan.
De WAK wordt daarnaast gebruikt om de contacten tussen professionals en amateurs te bevorderen en de samenwerking tussen amateurkunstenaars te stimuleren. Want juist door samen te werken bereik je een nieuw publiek.

Paul was een kleurrijk figuur die velen van jullie zullen kennen.
Mocht je niet weten over wie het gaat zou er wel een belletje kunnen gaan rinkelen bij een van Paul’s gevleugelde en luide uitspraken: "For fuck sakes man, play a wee bit of AC/DC!!!".
Paul, je was een handvol maar we gaan je gebral missen!
With one foot rooted in pre-war Delta blues, the other in a hotchpotch of country, swamp, jazz, rock, soul and folk, there are more sides to Gwyn Ashton than meets the eye. Ashton’s experiences are amplified by the resonator of his well-beaten, electrified1936 National guitar, his Weissenborn lap-slide and an array of other acoustic and electric instruments. His use of 21st century technology such as looping guitars, scratches and other percussive noises validates him as a modern-day rogue bluesman.
Ashton collaborates and records with some of the world’s most renowned musicians, his songs reflecting a wealth of experience and a lifetime spent paying his dues. In 2010 Italian guitar maker Liutart presented him with his own-design Gwyn Ashton signature model guitar – his perfect electric slide-machine.
As a duo, Ashton is joined by young impassioned percussionist / drummer ’Killer’ Kev Hickman, who provides the backbeat, groove and perfect counterpoint to Ashton’s guitar skills. Ashton and Hickman crash their way into the alt. music scene and blast down the boundaries between the blues, hip-hop and indie rock with riff-laden, edgy, high-octane songs. Drawing inspiration from the great rock and blues acts from the past, Ashton has developed his own distinctive identity, bringing the blues firmly into the 21st century and carving a notch in a world full of predictable, homogenized music.
Ashton has toured with BB King, Ray Charles, Buddy Guy, Mick Taylor, Rory Gallagher, Peter Green, Junior Wells, Johnny Winter, Canned Heat, Robin Trower, Jeff Healey, The Yardbirds, Status Quo, Magnum and many others. He has also recorded with Kim Wilson (Fabulous Thunderbirds), Robbie Blunt (Robert Plant), Chris Glen/Ted McKenna (SAHB, MSG), Don Airey (Deep Purple, Whitesnake, Rainbow, Black Sabbath, Ozzy Osbourne), Gerry McAvoy/Brendan O’Neill (Rory Gallagher). Ashton also replaced Thin Lizzy/Motorhead guitarist Brian Robertson fronting Band Of Friends - a memorial to Rory Gallagher featuring Gerry, Brendan, Lou Martin and Mark Feltham.
Black-Bone is een jonge en zeer explosieve rock ’n’ roll groep uit Eindhoven Nederland en is sterk beïnvloedt door bands als AC/DC, Led Zeppelin en de Hellacopters.
Blackbone heeft recent het voorprogramma verzorgt voor Deep Purple en Chickenfoot! Dat zijn toch niet de minste namen!
Captain Lee & The Cockswains
With all the different musical influences (from hardcore to 80’s metal) Captain Lee and the Cockswains play filthy rock’n roll with songs about drinkin’, druggin’, fighting in midnight alleys and having unsave sex with older men.
In other words: watch out for them, because the boys from "CLATC" will not hesitate to raise some hell and party with you until dawn. Which will hopefully happen soon in a city near you.
Seattle songwriter and guitarist Dudley Taft has been an integral part of the Seattle music scene since 1990. His first band, Sweet Water played sold-out shows and recorded two albums for Atlantic records in the early 1990’s. Dudley’s next CD was recorded for Capitol records with the band Second Coming in 1997. He has toured extensively with fellow bands Alice in Chains, Candlebox, Monster Magnet and Fuel, to name a few.
Dudley Taft’s guitar playing is often compared to the likes of Jimmy Page, Gary Moore and Joe Bonamassa. However, “it’s the strength of the self penned material that makes this such a success…” says Bob Chaffey of Blues Matters Magazine about Taft’s first CD, Left For Dead. The Dudley Taft band combines driving blues rhythms and classic riffs with a fresh take on Blues classics and engaging original compositions. In a relatively short period of time, Taft has made a splash in the blues world with rave reviews worldwide and key live shows in the Northwest.
He grew up in a country called the "Midwest", where he learned the values of friendship, roots blues, rock and roll and a good ear of corn. Dudley trained with local guitar hero Rob Swaynie who taught him music theory interspersed with B.B King and Deep Purple riffs.
In high school, he co-founded "Space Antelope" with Trey Anasatasio (of Phish), playing many school events. After four years of studying Johnny Winter and Billy Gibbons riffs at college in California, he emerged with a degree in Sociology.
In 2006, he embraced the Blues, recognizing it as the foundation of all the great 1970’s rock he has exposed to as a teenager. The more investigating he did, the more he realized that the Blues was his true musical home. Dudley’s band can be best described as "a little bit of Texas Blues infused with some Mississippi Delta, sprinkled with a hint of British Invasion and served up with Northwest Rock sensibility. His first blues CD, "Left For Dead", released in 2010 marks the beginning of the rest of his musical career.
The Band
John Kessler is best known for hosting KPLU’s All Blues radio show. Twelve hours of programming each weekend for the last twelve years has made John an absolute blues expert, but many listeners do not know that he is also an accomplished, innovative bass player. He adds a great improvisational spirit to his mastery of blues grooves.
Scott Vogel is the type of drummer that is all about the groove. Unassuming and humble, he makes it all look easy. Among busying himself with studio work, Scott recorded for Virgin records with Reverend and has toured extensively. He is the foundation of the band, skillfully weaving together traditional blues rhythms with precision and finesse.
De roots van No Comment gaan ver terug. In meerdere opzichten. De liefde voor muziek en het begin van deze muzikale ontmoeting startten in 1995 onder de Spaanse zon met de noten van ‘Come as you are’. Deze noten vormen het begin van een muzikale droom. Als fanatieke gitarist slaat Roel Helleman flink aan het harken op zijn gitaar en ontmoet op school Elvedin en Robert, afkomstig vanuit Bosnië, wat zorgt voor een multicultureel gezelschap. Niet alleen worden het vrienden, maar ze delen al snel dezelfde muzikale droom en gaan zelf ook gitaar en basgitaar spelen. Met deze combinatie lijkt het beginnen van een band op 15e jarige leeftijd onontkoombaar. Dit gebeurt dan ook. Na leuke schoolfeestjes en wat variaties in drummers ontmoeten ze Patrick. Met Patrick erbij voelt het goed, is de band compleet en besluiten ze zich volledig te richten op eigen werk.
Veel plezier, heel veel podia
De klik is zichtbaar en band deelt dit graag met het publiek. Dit is al snel het kenmerk van de band. Door de jaren heen is de band volwassen geworden, hebben ze verschillende stijlen aangenomen en op veel, heel veel podia en festivals gespeeld. Denk hierbij aan Paradiso, Paard van Troje, P60, Bibelot, Patronaat, Waerdse Tempel, Speakers en de Paap. Ook wonnen ze de nodige prijzen en pakten onder meer de publieksprijs in de finale van de Grote Prijs van Zuid-Holland.
Hier ligt ook de kracht van No Comment. Een ijzersterk en gevarieerd kwartet met ongekende liefde voor muziek. Dit spettert er live ook vanaf. Vele recensies beamen dit. Het is catchy, heeft jus en is energiek.
Ook de media is dat niet ontgaan. Zo waren zij naast vele lokale stations onder meer te gast bij TMF (reaction), 3FM en KINK FM radio.
De muziek
Hoe laat de muziek van de band zich het best omschrijven? Aan en uit, kleine nuances, wat onverwachte hoekjes maar catchy as hell! Een aparte combinatie die je niet snel thuis kunt brengen, maar dit is ook niet heel verwonderlijk als je kijkt naar de roots van deze band. Tip: Je moet het gewoon ervaren.
